MERCEDES-BENZ SE CLASS

For sale is this excellent 1990 “G” registration W126 Mercedes 420SE. It is very low mileage for its age (just 85,928 miles) and low ownership car (just 3 former keepers, with 2 of those owning the car for the vast majority of its life).

The car is finished in one of the most sought after and attractive colour schemes – Metallic Nautic Blue (929) with Mushroom (265) Leather. In addition the car was specified with the following factory fitted options – 221/222 electrically adjustable front seats, 412 tilt and slide electric sunroof, 440 cruise control and 731 burr walnut trim.

The car has benefited within the past year from 4 brand new Avon ZV1 tyres all round, as well as having the alloy wheels professionally refurbished (not just the face sprayed like so many alloy “refurbishments” – they have been properly acid dipped, refinished, tyres fitted and re balanced. Wheels and tyres are therefore as new.

The car is HPI clear and has just 3 recorded keepers, the paperwork I have the mileage all corresponds and is genuine - the condition of the steering wheel/underbody/engine bay etc is in keeping with this.

The first owner covered the majority of the cars mileage in the first 6 years, with 6 main dealer stamps to 60,962 miles in August 1992, followed by 4 further yearly stamps to 78,432 miles in November 1995, so as you can see the car has seen extremely little use for the past 25 years, but luckily has been brought our regularly for yearly MOT’s etc to keep it all in working order. The car passed to its second owner in Norfolk in August 1996 with 80,000 miles on the clock and had the private registration MCL 1V assigned to it. The car was then used sparingly as the MOT records attest and he kept the car until 2018. For much of the past decade the car was committed to storage and I bought the car a couple of years ago, giving it a service, new tyres, transmission fluid change and general shakedown. As is typical of the W126 S-Class the car has always started absolutely “on the button” and just runs beautifully with excellent oil pressure.
Mechanically the car always starts fine and has excellent oil pressure, and I have recently had both front brake calipers rebuilt by “Past Parts” as well as a new indicator/hazard relay fitted. Ideally the car wants a new rear exhaust section fitted as the silencer is corroded and was patched for the MOT last year.

The car is currently on the “Covid 19” MOT extension (last test carried out 30th July last year) but I will supply a full 12 months MOT with the car on sale.

Bodywork wise I would describe as very good. It is not perfect but is in my opinion very good indeed for its age, with some light cosmetic marks in general, but nothing that detracts from its overall appearance. The chromework is excellent in general with just a few scratches around the window chromes and a slight kink in one of the rear window quarterlight chrome trims. Both front and rear windscreens are excellent with no delamination which a lot of these suffer from. The car exhibits none of the usual bubbling or rusty wings anywhere I can see on the body, and all wheel arches are very good. Underneath the car is very solid – this is not a typical rusty W126.

Everything electrical works fine – all electric windows, tilt/slide sunroof, outside temperature gauge (these normally pack up!), electric front seats etc. The central locking also works perfectly on all doors and boot lid, even locking the fuel cap as it should do. The ventilation blower fan is slightly “squeaky” at lower fan speeds.

The car currently has the cherished registration “HLJ 965” fitted, this is not included as part of the sale (car would revert to the original “G” registration) but is available for an additional £500 if the buyer wants to keep it on the car. This is very reasonable for a 3 letter 3 number dateless registration if you have a look on Ebay!

This was part of my small collection of classics, however I have recently acquired an R107 SL so sadly can no longer justify keeping this as well. I believe I’ve priced it very sensibly to move it on.
